Happy New Year from Trafalgar Entertainment! Join us on our entertainment journey through 2024!
The smash-hit musical sensation The King and I opens at London’s Dominion Theatre on 20 January for a strictly limited six-week season. Call the Midwife star Helen George returns to the stage to reprise the lead role. Helen is reunited with her co-star, Broadway, and film actor Darren Lee, who played The King on Broadway. Both have received rave reviews for their performances.
Our producing partnerships continue to bring high class drama to the stage. No more so than our co-production of The Merchant of Venice 1936 with the RSC and Watford Palace Theatre, starring the fantastic Tracy Ann Oberman. ‘The most important Shakespeare production of the year’ is now transferring to London’s West End in 2024, playing at the Criterion Theatre for 6 weeks only from 15 February.
Talking of partnerships, Trafalgar’s innovative new 3-year theatrical summer producing partnership with London’s Barbican Centre kicks off in 2024, and we have a big show announcement coming very soon!
And that’s not all. Trafalgar’s Pavilion Theatre and Glasgow’s Tron Theatre are working together to bring more theatre shows to the city of Glasgow – the first of which is a re-mounted version of David Ireland’s acclaimed play Cyprus Avenue starring David Hayman in February.
Trafalgar also launches the new musical comedy Clueless based on the Paramount Pictures classic film, playing an exclusive two week run at the Churchill Theatre from 12 February as it continues to be created and developed in Bromley.
Trafalgar will also be working with The National Theatre, Neal Street Productions and Director Sam Mendes to bring the five-time Tony Award-winning Best Play, The Lehman Trilogy, to Theatre Royal Sydney.
At our flagship London venue, Trafalgar Theatre, don’t miss a thrilling and “brilliantly mischievous” new play, A Mirror, starring award-winning actors Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Elementary) and Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education, Scenes with Girls) from 22 January for a strictly limited run.
2024 is set to be a big year for Jonathan Church Theatre Productions. Jonathan and his team will be opening A Monster Calls in Japan (February to March) and co-producing The Picture of Dorian Gray at London’s Haymarket Theatre (February to May) and Hello Dolly! at the London Palladium (July to September). There’s also a UK Tour of Poirot and More, A Retrospective starring David Suchet (January to March) and a revival of A Chorus Line in Leicester, Sadler’s Wells and on UK Tour (July to October).
And don’t forget to look out for the best theatre ticket deals throughout the year from our leading ticketing company London Theatre Direct.
Following an explosive year for event cinema with releases from some of the world’s undisputed biggest pop stars including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Beyoncé, Trafalgar Releasing is gearing up for some major cinema events in 2024.
Pet Shop Boys bring their critically-acclaimed greatest hits tour, Dreamworld, to movie theatres worldwide for two nights only on 31 January & 4 February, and we celebrate 20 years of Peppa Pig with Peppa’s Cinema Party in February.
The Royal Opera House Cinema Season continues with nine more productions screening in cinemas worldwide through to June 2024. A highlight for ballet fans, Swan Lake starring Yasmine Naghdi and Matthew Ball, will be broadcast live on 24 April.
But keep your eyes on the big screen for news of all the latest music and arts screenings coming to your local cinema in 2024!
If you’re a young, upcoming performer, or have ambitions to work in the theatre industry, there are lots of opportunities to get involved this year through our education businesses, Stagecoach Performing Arts and Drama Kids.
Our Creative Learning work also continues to break new ground around the UK. Last year we reached 50,000 participants through our initiatives and we have big plans for 2024.
And we love our theatre spaces. 2024 is set to be an exciting year as we welcome a brand-new venue into the fold. Currently under construction, Fareham Live will launch as an all-new facility in late 2024 as part of the council’s multi-million-pound plans to regenerate the Town Centre.
In Southend, the long-awaited refurbishment of the Cliffs Pavilion, made possible through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and investment from Trafalgar, will get underway. And with innovation at its very heart, step inside our state-of-the-art temporary venue, Orchard West, which was conceived, constructed, and opened within the space of three months.
We also have our sights set on other venues across the UK and worldwide, so watch this space!
Together we are Trafalgar Entertainment.
