A TASTE OF HONEY OPENS IN LONDON

Tue 10 December 2019

The Trafalgar Studios red carpet was graced with TV legends, fashion royalty and a sporting icon last night as Shelagh Delaney’s remarkable taboo-breaking play A Taste of Honey returned to the West End for the first time in 60 years.

Celeb guests included Gavin and Stacey’s Alison Steadman, fashion designer extraordinaire Vivienne Westwood, Olympic Gold Medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, actors Shaun Dooley and Neil Morrissey, comedian Jenny Éclair and Strictly Come Dancing star Bruno Tonioli.

In a glowing four-star review, the Evening Standard said, “the revival is more nimble and resonant than ever” further commenting that “its revolutionary verve is more powerfully realised.” In another review, My Theatre Mates said, “Delaney’s play feels as prescient as ever with its comment on the burden of expectation placed on women, class struggle, race and sexuality; and more than six decades on, it’s lost none of its bite.”

Bijan Sheibani’s A Taste of Honey is a co-production between The National Theatre and Trafalgar Theatre Productions and plays a limited 12-week season at Trafalgar Studios until 29 February 2020.

Jodie Prenger (Oliver!Shirley Valentine, Annie, Abigail’s Party UK tour) leads the cast as Helen, with Gemma Dobson as Jo, Durone Stokes as Jimmie, Stuart Thompson as Geoffrey, and Tom Varey as Peter.
