Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire built one of the world’s largest and most successful live theatre businesses from scratch – the Ambassador Theatre Group.  Under their leadership, ATG became a premier international theatre owner and prolific, successful global producer. ATG has more theatres than any other group worldwide.

Productions and co-productions at ATG at this time included The Ruling Class starring James McAvoy, The Homecoming starring John Simm, Oresteia, Pedro Almodovar’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown starring Tamsin Greig, East is East starring Jane Horrocks, Richard III starring Martin Freeman, Jersey Boys, Macbeth starring James McAvoy, The Hothouse starring Simon Russell Beale, Posh, Jumpy and Constellations (Royal Court at the Duke of York’s), Legally Blonde the Musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot, The Rocky Horror Show, South Pacific at The Barbican, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker!, The Misanthrope starring Damian Lewis and Keira Knightley, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls starring Ewan McGregor and multi award-winning West End musical Carmen Jones.

Productions on Broadway included The Mountaintop starring Samuel L Jackson and Angela Bassett; Exit the King starring Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon and John Doyle’s award-winning production of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Howard and Rosemary have now created a new company Trafalgar Entertainment Group, which owns and operates Trafalgar Studios; 2 theatres in the West End. Current productions include Tracy Letts’ hit thriller Killer Joe starring Orlando Bloom. The company also owns Trafalgar Releasing (formerly Picturehouse Entertainment) who live-broadcast content to cinemas worldwide including productions from The Royal Shakespeare Company, Glyndebourne, The Metropolitan Opera and Bolshoi Ballet to live music events from David Gilmour, Muse and more.

Howard and Rosemary are also now producing a group of new shows in London and internationally including the Lincoln Center’s award-winning production of The King and I, The Rocky Horror Show worldwide, Tom Morris’ The Grinning Man and Stockard Channing in Apologia.  They co-produced Mary Stuart starring Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams at the Duke of York’s, the Jersey Boys UK tour and are co-producing The Height of the Storm starring Dame Eileen Aitken and Jonathan Pryce at Wyndham’s Theatre and Patrick Barlow’s The Messiah starring Hugh Dennis and Lesley Garrett as well as commissioning a raft of new productions.

Sir Howard Panter

Sir Howard Panter is a prominent theatre entrepreneur and producer with over 40 years’ experience in the arts and entertainment industry gained in organisations such as The Royal Court Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company and Michael Codron Ltd.

He is widely respected in the industry both in the UK and internationally. From 2010 to 2016, he and his wife/business partner, Rosemary Squire OBE, topped The Stage 100 list of the most influential people in British theatre for a record-breaking seven consecutive years. The couple were also placed first in the Evening Standard ‘Power 1000’ Theatre section.

In 2013, Howard received a Knighthood in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for Services to Theatre.

Howard was co-founder, Joint CEO and Creative Director for the Ambassador Theatre Group Ltd (ATG), the world’s largest live-theatre company. Under his leadership, ATG became one of the most prolific, broad-based commercial theatre producers in the world with productions in the West End and on Broadway and touring productions in the UK, North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Howard also pioneered ATG’s international expansion, leading the team which acquired The Lyric Theatre and Hudson Theatre on Broadway, the Theatre Royal in Sydney Australia and ACE Theatrical Group in the US.

Howard is a Director of the Rocky Horror Company Limited. He was Chairman of The English Shakespeare Company and Director of West End theatre owners Maybox Group plc. He is currently Chair of Rambert Dance Company.

Howard is leading the new venture based at Trafalgar Studios; Trafalgar Entertainment Group.  He will also develop new creative projects for Howard Panter Productions and continue operating The Rocky Horror Show worldwide.

 

Dame Rosemary Squire DBE

Joint CEO and Executive Chair - Trafalgar Entertainment Group

Rosemary Squire OBE is the most prominent woman in British theatre of the modern era.  Under her leadership, Ambassador Theatre Group became the world’s largest live-theatre company with 46 venues in Britain, the US and Australia and one of the world’s most prolific theatre producers.  Now, she is moving into a new creative phase with a new venture based at Trafalgar Studios.

Rosemary is the only woman ever to have won the EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year Award and in 2015, she became the first woman ever to represent the UK at the World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

She is a National Member of the Arts Council England Board, Chairman of the Board for Sonia Friedman Productions and Joint Chair of The Hall for Cornwall. She has raised over £5m as Chair of Great Ormond Street’s Theatres for Theatres Appeal and is about to chair another major appeal for the hospital. As President of the Society of London Theatre, she became the second only female President in the organisation’s history. She won the prestigious CBI Real Business First Women Award for Tourism & Leisure and was awarded an OBE for Services to Theatre.

Widely respected in the industry, Rosemary and Howard topped The Stage 100 for seven consecutive record-breaking years. They have also topped the Evening Standard ‘Power 1000’ Theatre section and Rosemary was one of the 100 women on the inaugural BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour UK Power List in 2013, appearing at number 16.

Rosemary has also been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Southampton University and De Montfort University in recognition of her achievements as a theatre entrepreneur.  In 2018, she was named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in The Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to Theatre and Philanthropy.
